The following information provides additional help for Netscape users. However certain parts of this help may only affect users with particular operating system versions, or combinations of browser version and operating system.

Printing search results screens
Some users of Netscape may find that they are unable to print the results screens. This is due to the way that Netscape deals with cached copies of pages that have been posted to the client computer. When the print button is clicked, Netscape attempts to send the latest information to the printer, by querying the server again. However due to the dynamic nature of the pages, this query is unsuccessful and users may find that they have only printed a blank page.
Workaround
Save a copy of the page to your disk, and print from the saved copy, or highlight and then copy the text from the page and paste it into a suitable document editor or spreadsheet.

Apple Mac users
Some Apple Mac users of Netscape 4.X may find that when attempting to open the applet, their browser quits unexpectedly. This is due to the fact that Netscape 4.X was shipped with its own internal JVM and does not use Apple’s own MRJ (Mac OS Runtime for Java).
Solution
The recommendation from Apple is that users upgrade to one of the later versions of Netscape which adopted the policy of using the MRJ.
Workaround
If you do not wish to upgrade your browser at this time, you can still view images.
If you click edit ->preferences->advanced and then untick the enable Java box, this will prevent the applet opening when you choose to view an image. You will then see just the Census Images screen which offers you the option to download and save a copy of the census image to your disk and view it using an installed image viewer or art package
