Search for an Address

Address searching allows you to find the details of a specific address as recorded in the census. This will tell you whether the house was inhabited. You can then go on to view images of the census pages containing this address. You must enter house and/or street details, and either place keywords or any advanced place criteria.

Address (House and/or Street)

The house name or number and/or street are to be entered in this field. For further help on what to enter in this field, click on the ? for this box.

At the time the Census was taken, street names were not always as formalised as they are today. You may find that they may not be spelt the same way or even have the same name as they have now. Particularly in rural areas street names may not have been laid down, so you may find houses that are now in a certain street being described in terms of their geography.

Place Keyword

This field could help you narrow down the scope of your search to a particular area. You can enter any details that you know.

Example If the address you are seeking was in the county of Norfolk enter Norfolk in this box. If you are more certain of the place you can enter more than one keyword.
