If your search has not produced an entry for the person you are looking for there may be a number of reasons. Some of the criteria you have specified, although correct to the best of your knowledge may not be recorded as such in the census. There are certain anomalies in the way information was recorded in the census which may lead to the exclusion of the individual you are seeking. Some specific areas where problems can occur are: Names: The way names are recorded can vary. Try going to the advanced search and using the other names box, try putting just an initial for the first name or try reversing the first and last names. Use wildcard characters where you are not sure of the exact spelling (or where the recorded spelling may differ). To represent one or more characters use an asterisk(*), to represent a single character, use underscore(_). Places: It may be that your individual was not at the location you think on census night. Try broadening the search from a specific place to a county or try leaving place out altogether. Also you should note that a number of enumeration books covering areas within the Registration Sub-District of Deal in Kent are missing Finally it may be that you do not have enough information to identify the individual and you need to do some more research before using the census on-line service.
