This screen returns a list of places which match the information you specified in the
place search screen. The actual fields you entered may not appear in the list as there are many "place" keywords and
we cannot show them all.
What do the entries in this list represent ?
For the purposes of the Census, England and Wales were divided into Registration Districts and Sub-Districts.
Within each Sub-District, the area was divided into Enumeration Districts each of which was assigned to an enumerator.
The enumerator's task was to walk around this district, collect the names of all the people living there, and record the.
information in an "Enumeration Book".
Each entry in your Place search results represents one such book.
What information is available ?
Each Enumeration District book includes several different types of
pages containing information about the district and the people in
it. Some page types are free to view and others are chargeable.
The "select an image" box enables you to choose which type of page(s) you wish to view.
When you choose the page type the system will tell you whether that page type is free or not.
For a description of the different pages see Page Types
When you have made your selection Click "Go" to view the images of the census pages.
