How do I order a certificate?

Help menu

The General Registration index shows a district, volume number and page number next to your ancestor’s first and last name. If you wish to find out more about your ancestor’s birth, marriage or death, you can use this information to order a copy of the original certificate from the General Registry Office, which is part of the Office of National Statistics. The extra benefit of ordering a certificate is that birth records give both parents’ names, marriage records give ages and names of both partner’s fathers. Death certificates give ages, and after 1969 also give place of birth.

At the current time, the General Registry Office charges £7.00 per certificate. (Please note that the General Registry Office is separate from 1901 Census Online and 1901 Census Online does not sell certificates).
