How do I order a certificate?
The General Registration index shows a district, volume number and page number next to your ancestorís first and last name. If you wish to find out more about your ancestorís birth, marriage or death, you can use this information to order a copy of the original certificate from the General Registry Office, which is part of the Office of National Statistics. The extra benefit of ordering a certificate is that birth records give both parentsí names, marriage records give ages and names of both partnerís fathers. Death certificates give ages, and after 1969 also give place of birth.
At the current time, the General Registry Office charges £7.00 per certificate. (Please note that the General Registry Office is separate from 1901 Census Online and 1901 Census Online does not sell certificates).
